PSN down for many heading into the weekend

If your Friday-night plans involved some Destiny or other games that require the PlayStation Network, you may need to find something else to do.

PSN is down for a number of people, according to complaints on social media. Sony’s status site has just updated to confirm the problems. Gamers are encountering errors trying to load up multiplayer releases like Call of Duty, Destiny, and more. Others are also running into issues when they boot up primarily single-player adventures that rely on third-party servers.

Here’s what the PSN status website says:

“You may be experiencing issues related to launching certain games or game functionality. This is due to factors external to PSN. We are tracking the progress of the resolution of the issue.”

This outage comes after PlayStation console owners have complained about sluggish download speeds on Sony’s network over the last week or so. The company responded to this issue in a thread on its support forums.

“We are aware of reports that some users are experiencing slower then usual download speeds from the PlayStation Store,” a spokesperson for the company wrote. “This has been reported to our network team for investigation. Please keep an eye on this thread for updates.”
