Updated at 9:00 p.m. Pacific time on July 3: PSN has been up and down all evening. We’re waiting on a statement from Sony.
It’s nearly Independence Day here in the United States, and that means some of us don’t have to work on Friday. But with a PlayStation Network outage, we may not get to play games either.

It also comes after Microsoft’s Xbox Live online infrastructure failed for several hours on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Dozens of gamers have taken to Twitter and other social networks to report that they cannot sign into Sony’s PlayStation Network. This is keeping them from accessing online multiplayer releases like Destiny and Call of Duty, but it’s also interfering with purchases on the PlayStation Store and some single-player games that require a third-party server connection. Sony has updated its status website to confirm the outage on Friday.
“You may be experiencing issues related to signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network. We appreciate your patience while we address this,” reads the PlayStation support page. “You may [also] be experiencing issues related to launching games, applications, and/or social features such as trophies, messaging, or friends list. We appreciate your patience while we address this.”
We're aware that PSN is experiencing connectivity issues. Thank you for your patience as we investigate. http://t.co/0H0knwwmPY

Now, this does not mean that everyone will experience the same connection problems. Some people are still able to get online.
