Q*bert is a movie star now, and that means the publisher responsible for his latest release is unleashing him upon Android and iOS devices.
Q*bert: Rebooted is brings its refreshed cube-jumping gameplay to iPhone and iPad today. The game was previously available on PlayStation consoles, Steam, and TV-based Android systems. But now it is working with touchscreens and fully compatible with your smartphone. Developer Gonzo Games timed the launch of this release to coincide with the Adam Sandler film Pixels, which debuted in theaters earlier this week and is about sad arcade-gaming professionals using their skills to fight off a real invasion of pixelated game characters. The game is a free download with in-app purchases to give your Q*bert a boost, which I’m assuming makes him swear better.

But the game also gives players the option to play in the original 1982 pixel art as well for a more nostalgic effect.
Here’s the trailer for the PC/console version of the game:
Q*bert: Rebooted is part of a wave of mobile games that have tried to update classic arcade franchises for the iPhone generation. This has worked spectacularly for games like Crossy Road, which is an update on the Frogger concept. That app has gone on to make a serious amount of cash by modernizing the concept of guiding a character across a busy street and river.
Following the success of Crossy Road, other classic arcade-game publishers — like Bandai Namco — have started partnering with mobile developers to update their catalog for a new audience. Q*bert: Rebooted is trying to do that same thing.
