Rare Replay is proving to be a big hit on Xbox One.
The jumbo compilation of games from veteran developer Rare — which features 30 titles from a 32-year period — has debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. all-formats sales chart, reports MCV. It comes at a traditionally quiet time for the industry, but it’s still an impressive feat for a single-format release.
Microsoft bought the previously-independent Rare back in 2002, and the U.K. studio’s last No. 1 game came four years prior to that with the release of Banjo-Kazooie on the Nintendo 64. It’s a long time to go between big hits, but Rare Replay’s success is not surprising given the great reviews it’s been getting and the value in the $30 title.
GamesBeat’s own Mike Minotti gave Rare Replay a score of 90/100, saying, “If you missed Rare’s golden era during the turn of the century, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience a lot of classics.”
