The studio showed off an entire in-game match. The action started with a computer-controlled character commanding a huge crowd of player characters. The demonstration then guided the character through a map filled with giant robots and other on-foot soldiers. The player used a combination of grunts and mechs to take out enemies.
Titanfall is a first-person shooter from many of the folks who left Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward. It is a futuristic sci-fi title with warriors in giant, agile robot suits. These mechs can double jump and run across walls.
While Titanfall does look like an evolution of Call of Duty, Respawn is clearly trying to set this game apart. At the same time, the character movement, the onscreen prompts, and animation all look similar to Infinity Ward’s games.
This is the first game from Respawn Entertainment. Developers Jason West and Vince Zampella founded Respawn following their tumultuous exit from Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision in 2010.
In 2012, Respawn revealed it would work with Electronic Arts through its partners program to publish its first title.
