Game Freak’s next game is not a Nintendo game at all.
Sega and Game Freak have announced a new adventure game, Tembo the Badass Elephant. It’s surprising enough that the team behind one of gaming’s most popular franchises, Pokemon, is working on a side-scroller with this one-time Nintendo rival. But it’s skipping Nintendo entirely, releasing this summer as a digital download for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Given that Pokémon and Game Freak fans are most likely to own Nintendo systems, skipping the Wii U is an unexpected choice.
Game Freak has developed primarily for Nintendo platforms since its opening in 1989. Best known for the Pokémon franchise games launched across the Game Boy and Nintendo DS and 3DS system family, it has only developed a few games for other platforms, including two Sega Mega Drive games in the early 1990s.
Tembo is a comic-style, 2D fighting-action game featuring 17 levels and Tembo the elephant and his bird sidekick, Picolo. No price was announced.
