In the ’90s, the human race replaced kung fu with a new form of martial arts called Shaq Fu. Similarly, we shall replace the smackdown of our time with … the ShaqDown.
ShaqDown is a side-scrolling zombie-attack game starring former NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal. It’s available now on iOS and Android for 99 cents. Shaq, our hero, must run from left to right, charging over zombies and chucking “free throws” to knock bigger enemies off balance before tackling them.
The game plays a lot like any of the other side-scrolling endless-running titles (think Robot Unicorn Attack.)
Developer One Spear Entertainment adapted O’Neal as a cartoon character. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with a story to match. Naturally, Shaq is the only thing that can save the human race from zombie-led doom.
After a few minutes, it’s clear that this Shaq game is at least a bit better than the terrible 16-bit era Shaq Fu. That Street Fighter II-inspired fighting title is well known for its unresponsive controls and cheap computer-controlled opponents.
