LOS ANGELES — Bethesda Softworks revealed a new trailer for its upcoming massively multiplayer role-playing game The Elder Scrolls Online during Sony’s 2013 pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press conference. The new gameplay displayed large-scale battles reminiscent of an epic fantasy film — giant catapults and all.

Players can stand alone or fight side by side. Combat followed the typical Elder Scrolls two-handed format, one arm for weapon wielding and the other for spell casting. The on-screen characters battled various dark forces, including bipedal dragon-like creatures and ice monsters.

Sony announced an exclusive beta for the game available first on PlayStation 4. The Elder Scrolls Online releases next Spring.
