Ostensibly, this event, which it is holding at Silverstone Circuit raceway in the U.K., is to celebrate the franchise’s 15-year anniversary. A teaser video, however, suggests a new game might be in the works.
Check it out below:
At the end of the stylized trailer, the video shows the GT logo with the number for each of previous games. It ends with a blinking underscore that suggests we might hear about GT6 in the near future.
“The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation,” Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan said in a statement. “We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia, and Japan. We are very grateful to our manufacturer partners for helping us to bring together a fantastic event. As well as experiencing the development of the game and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what’s next for Gran Turismo.”
Yamauchi-san is Kazunori Yamauchi, who has overseen the Gran Turismo series since the release of the 1997 PlayStation original. Gran Turismo is a realistic simulation that forgoes arcadey gameplay for an accurate re-creation of real-world performance and conditions.
We will have any new information about Gran Turismo for you on May 15.
