Last week’s 2.0 system update brought some big new features to PlayStation 4, but it also brought problems for some gamers. Sony says it’s now working out the bugs.

System update 2.0 was a big deal, mostly because it brought SharePlay, Sony’s unique game-sharing system that works via streaming, to PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, the major update wasn’t entirely good news as it resulted in many consoles freezing and some failing to turn on when put into sleep mode. The update also caused an embarassing delay for the PS4 alpha test of the highly anticipated shooter, Evolve, which was due to run on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC over the weekend.  It’s an awkward step backward for an update that should improve functionality.

Sony told GamesBeat at the time that it was “investigating these issues.” According to the official PlayStation Twitter feed yesterday, the gaming giant is now actively working to resolve the freezes and boot errors.

Personally, I haven’t been able to place my PlayStation 4 in sleep mode, or rest mode, as it’s now known, since update 2.0. Doing so results in a failure to boot up normally, so I’ve taken to turning the console off completely after use. It’s frustrating because it disables certain functions, such as the ability to download game updates and other digital files during the night. The fact that Sony is actively working on a fix is good news for anyone experiencing the same problem.

The Evolve alpha is also now running on PS4 after an update, and publisher 2K Games has extended the testing period on all systems until noon Pacific on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

It sounds like PS4 gamers may still experience problems related to update 2.0 when trying out Evolve, though, and they’ll just have to be prepared for them. “While internal testing shows the majority of PS4 matches are completed successfully, some players will encounter interruptions and issues affecting the Evolve experience,” said 2K. “We ask for your patience and participation as we rigorously test Evolve to ensure a successful launch on February 10, 2015.“
