LOS ANGELES — Sony showed off The Dark Sorcerer from Quantic Dream. The demo featured amazing graphics of the human face of a sorcerer, but rather than evoking fear, it is a comedy.
David Cage, founder of Quantic Dream, is busy with Beyond: Two Souls, a ponderous game that will leave you scared and stunned at its realism. But The Dark Sorcerer’s realism is enlisted in the service of making you laugh. The sorcerer stars out in the scene with a booming voice, like the Wizard of Oz. The animation is so good that it looks like the virtual character looks almost human.
He booms, “I will make them regret the day they ever defied the greatest dark sorcerer to ever walk the earth.” Then he steps out of the role and, as an actor, says, “How was that?” An elf-like creature then starts having a conversation with him about the quality of his acting. That was a surprise and was quite funny.
It’s like pulling back the curtain on the wizard.
