The Nintendo World Championships is happening this Sunday, and the company is finally sharing some of the details.
This weekend is the first time in more than two decades that Nintendo will hold one of its championship events, and the company wants to keep a lot of what is going to happen a secret. But it did reveal that players will participate in eight different games, including Splatoon. Nintendo points out that this is the first official tournament for its newly released paint-splatting shooter. But that’s the only game the publisher would confirm of the eight.
Check out the video below for some more details:
In the video, Nintendo revealed that gaming personality Kevin Pereira — formerly of G4’s now-defunct Attack of the Show — will host the event. The company also provided a list of some of the top gamers from around the world that it is inviting to participate. These include speedrunners like Trihex (Yoshi’s Island expert), Cosmo Wright (Zelda expert), and Sinister1, who can play through Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! while blindfolded:
This event is one of the ways that Nintendo is hoping to attract attention to its presence at the Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show, which starts on Monday. The publisher did something similar last year when it held an official tournament for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on stage at the Nokia Theater.
