Square Enix confirmed its new video game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the latest in a series about the conflict between humans and people with augmented cybernetics. The Japanese publisher of the Final Fantasy series released the trailer and discussed it on Twitch, a first for a major game.
Square Enix didn’t say when the game is arriving, but players can preorder it now. It shows that Square Enix is still betting big on high-end video games at a time when mobile and online drive the industry’s growth.
This upcoming release is a long-awaited sequel to the 2011 game Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it will come out on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the PC.
On a channel dubbed CantKillProgress, Square Enix teased the announcement with a security camera video of a man in a prison cell. Just before the announcement, a woman joined the main and argued with him about a bombing attack and how to save the lives of hundreds of people.

The reveal was spoiled yesterday as leakers at NeoGaf and other online hubs, translating a post on a Russian site. The actual announcement shows that the Adam Jensen, whose body has been augmented with cybernetic parts, is still the hero. Now he is apparently hunting other augmented humans who have been labeled as terrorists after the events of the previous game in the series. Eidos Montreal is developing with an all-new tech dubbed the Dawn Engine.
Square Enix said, “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided directly follows the aftermath of the Aug Incident, a day when mechanically augmented citizens all over the world were stripped of control over their minds and bodies, resulting in the deaths of millions of innocents. The year is now 2029, and the golden era of augmentations is over. Mechanically augmented humans have been deemed outcasts and segregated from the rest of society. Crime and acts of terror serve as a thin veil to cover up an overarching conspiracy aimed at controlling the future of mankind.”
The art style uses the same combination of black and gold that defined the look of the 2011 game.
