Square Enix had one of the biggest surprises this morning at the Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow — a new role-playing game studio and Japanese RPG for consoles.

During today’s E3 press conference, the legendary Japanese publisher announced the formation of a new development house, Tokyo RPG Factory. The group will focus primarily on JRPG titles, with their first, Project Setsuna, aiming for consoles in 2016.

“RPGs are a major part of the Square Enix legacy, including Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts,” Yosuke Matsuda, the president and representative director of Square Enix Holdings, said. “RPG fans from all over the world have supported us along the years. To keep creating incredible new RPG titles, we started Project Setsuna and it is developed by Tokyo RPG Factory, a newly established studio for the project.”
