Star Wars: Attack Squadrons enters closed testing phase

You better lock your S-foils into attack position, because the X-wings and the TIE Fighters are at it again.

Disney is currently sending out invites for a closed “beta” test of its Star Wars: Attack Squadrons. The online dogfighting game has players facing off against one another in one of the familiar starfighters from the Star Wars film series, which The Walt Disney Company now owns.

The test is running now through Jan. 28, and some gamers are reporting that they are receiving their invites right now.

Star Wars: Attack Squadrons is a browser game that runs on the Unity graphics engine. That means it requires the Unity plugin and a bit of a download before it will start. It is a fully 3D game, and it requires at least Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.6. The space sim also needs systems with 4GB RAM capable of running Microsoft’s DirectX 9 graphics library.

Attack Squadrons is one of the first Star Wars games from Disney since the company took over the license in October 2012. Disney Interactive has not provided a release date for the public version of Attack Squadrons.

The company is currently producing several films based on the franchise as well as an animated TV show.

In 2013, Battlefield 4 publisher Electronic Arts signed a deal with Disney to lockup the full rights for producing triple-A Star Wars games for consoles and PC. Disney retains the rights to make casual and free-to-play titles based on the property for mobile, social, and browser.
