The game of the Eternal Throne will start later this year for Star Wars fans.
Developer BioWare today revealed Star Wars: The Old Republic’s sixth expansion, Knights of the Eternal Throne. It will release this Fall. The Old Republic is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) for PC, so new content from expansions like this are essential if it wants to keep players engaged. While the base game is free, expansions are available to those who pay a premium subscription. According to research firm SuperData, Star Wars: The OId Republic was the #4 grossing MMO in the pay-to-play category in May. Its placement in that category instead of free-to-play could be because of its optional subscription.

The Old Republic’s last expansion, Knights of the Fallen Empire, came out on October 27, 2015. It focused on story and released episodic content up until May 5.
BioWare’s MMO originally released in December 2011. At first, it required a subscription to play, similar to top MMO World of Warcraft. In July 2012, dipping subscriber numbers saw publisher Electronic Arts implement a free-to-play model. We don’t know exactly how well the game is doing these days since EA doesn’t release player numbers, but the fact that it’s still supporting The Old Republic with new content is a good sign for the MMO’s future.
