It’s a crime against us all that no one is making a new X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. While we might never get another standalone entry in the Star Wars dogfighting genre, BioWare is bringing ship-to-ship combat to Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Today, developer BioWare is revealing the next expansion to its Star Wars massively multiplayer online game called Galactic Starfighter. It introduces 12-on-12 dogfights in a free update. Players can fight for either the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire and customize their ship and loadout. Players can outfit their ships to perform scout or gunship roles, for example.

Those players will also get exclusive skins for their ships, suits for their pilots, and leveling benefits. Preferred Status players (those who have spent money in The Old Republic) will get the expansion on Jan. 14. Everyone else will get it on Feb. 4.
This is the second expansion to The Old Republic. BioWare released Rise of the Hutt Cartel in April. It raised the level cap to 55. The developer first sold it for $20 and $10 for subscribers. It is now a free update for all players.
