Nintendo has another hit on its hands with Super Mario Maker, showing there’s still plenty of life in the Wii U.
The new creative platformer, which GamesBeat awarded a rare perfect score, debuted at No. 2 in the U.K. all-formats chart, reports MCV. It’s the fourth best week-one performance for a Wii U game, behind Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Nintendo Land (which Nintendo bundled with the premium edition Wii U console at launch).
Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain held onto the top sales spot despite a 78 percent drop in sales from its launch week.
Another notable new release failed to make a dent on the top ten. Tearaway Unfolded — an updated PlayStation 4 version of Media Molecule’s quirky PS Vita title Tearaway — debuted at No. 33.
Here’s how the full U.K. all-formats retail chart for the week ending Sept 12 looks:
1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Konami)

3. Mad Max (Warner Bros)
