Zombies are invading the holiday season.
Telltale has released the first two episodes of the third season of its critically acclaimed The Walking Dead series for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. These will launch on iOS and Android at an unspecified date later in the week. Access to the full season costs $25. The Walking Dead helped make Telltale the king of episodic gaming, with the series selling more 50 million episodes worldwide.
The Walking Dead is a triple threat in media, popular in comics, gaming, and TV. The AMC show is on its seventh season, and 4.6 million people watched the recent midseason finale.
“We’re starting this dramatic new entry point to the series in a way that will surprise and intrigue existing players and newcomers alike, and there is no better way to do that than with an epic two-part premiere,” said Kevin Bruner, chief executive officer and cofounder of Telltale Games, in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “We hope that all fans of The Walking Dead can enjoy this introduction to new player character Javier and his family, and that those already familiar with Clementine will be as excited as we are to see her mysterious return.”

The popularity of the first season of The Walking Dead helped Telltale earn prestige as a developer and nab other, recognizable licenses for episodic games like A Game of Thrones and Batman. Telltale is also working on a Guardians of the Galaxy series.
