The Elder Scrolls Online is a real project, Bethesda announces

Bethesda just announced the Elder Scrolls Online which will include all of Tamriel, only a millennium before the events of company's most recent release, Skyrim.

Tamriel, the fictional universe that acts as a backdrop for developer Bethesda’s long-running Elder Scrolls series, is a gigantic place.  Exploring just one portion of it (like Skyrim for example) takes literally hours to do. Well, imagine if all of Tamriel was available in one, massive game….

You don’t have to. Bethesda just announced the Elder Scrolls Online which will include  all of Tamriel, only a millennium before the events of company’s most recent release, Skyrim. That neatly answers the question of what developers plan to do with all the tombs and dungeons players are familiar with in the current form of the universe — none of that has happened yet.

“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,”Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online, said in a statement. “It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

The story centers around Molag Bol, one of the 16 Daedric princes (basically the Elder Scrolls equivalent of malevolent deities) as he attempts to pull the entire world into his demonic plane. Molag Bol represents the domination and enslavement mortals. It’ll take more than one hero thwart such a mighty foe.

The Elder Scrolls Online is in development for both PC and Mac. Bethesda will reveal more information about the project in the June edition of Game Informer magazine.
