This week, Nintendo takes a tentative step into the present (or recent past, if you’re a PC gamer) by making New Super Mario Bros. 2 available digitally on the eShop the same day it’s available in stores. It’s a bold move for a company that has been hesitant to embrace online gaming, but hopefully this signifies a new direction for the Japanese publisher.
Other new items added to the 3DS eShop this week include a video showcasing NSMB2’s Coin Rush Mode, which is presumably just like the regular game but with even more coins, and a handful of new downloadable songs for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (featuring various battle themes, spiky hairstyles, and crazy swords from the long-running role-playing game series).
However, if you prefer your downloadable content to feature crazy chickens and pirates, Nintendo has that covered this week with Crazy Chicken Pirates 3D. The game, which is available for $1.99, asks players to defend Chicken Island from a gang of murderous chicken pirates by…shooting them. Kid-friendly stuff.
Also, the Game Boy classic Mario’s Picross is on sale for $2.99 from today through Wednesday. You could download that if, for some reason, crazy chicken pirates aren’t your thing.
