Paladin aircraft Splinter Cell

As a community, gamers accept that some Call of Duty fans will spend tons of money on a special-edition package that includes the game and then some sort of expensive toy. Night-vision goggles and remote-controlled quadrocopters accompanied various entries in Activision’s popular first-person shooter series. Now, Splinter Cell publisher Ubisoft wants in on the action.

Today, Ubisoft announced the Splinter Cell: Blacklist Paladin Multimission Aircraft Edition for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, due out Aug. 20. The package costs $169.99 and comes with the game and a remote-controlled, ready-to-fly facsimile of a military transport aircraft called Paladin. The limited bundle also includes an 88-page graphic novel, an exclusive co-op map, a bonus downloadable-content pack, and a limited edition Sam Fisher poster.

The plane, which Ubisoft claims is a $150 value, is capable of flying at 35 mph within a radius of 250 feet.

The DLC is the Upper Echelon Pack, which includes a co-op map, gold sonar goggles, and the Upper Echelon suit. Separate from this add-on bundle is the exclusive co-op map that only comes in this special edition. It is the Billionaire’s Yacht level, set on the Coral Sea.
