This week in the Nintendo Download: Epic Mickey, Myst, and Hotel Transylvania

This week in the Nintendo Download: Epic Mickey, Myst, and Hotel Transylvania

Nintendo adds Epic Mickey 2 and a classic PC adventure game to the 3DS eShop this week. Also, Adam Sandler is there.

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion

Nintendo is probably hoping you’ll save your money for something else this week, but that hasn’t stopped it from putting a few more full 3DS games on the eShop.

First is Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion. Unlike its co-op-enabled 3D platforming big brother on consoles, Power of Illusion is a 2D sidescroller inspired by Sega’s classic Castle of Illusion for Genesis. In keeping with the Epic Mickey franchise’s mechanic of using paint and thinner to create and destroy objects, you can use the 3DS’s touchscreen to draw items and help Mickey in his quest to defeat all of Walt Disney’s less popular characters.

The next title on the eShop this week is Hotel Transylvania, the tie-in for the recently released movie from renowned animator Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory, Star Wars: Clone Wars). According to Nintendo, Hotel Transylvania tasks you with helping a human make his way through “the scariest hotel on the planet” and features 18 different monsters and 1,400 hidden gem to discover. Now, considering its setting and that it’s a 2D platformer with a very familiar-looking map on the bottom screen, you might end up confusing this for another Dracula-based series. Unfortunately, I’m going to assume that this one doesn’t end with you defeating Adam Sandler’s true form and unlocking the secret upside-down Hotel Transylvania.

For any of you admiring all of the diplomas on your wall, you can download the Brain Age-style intelligence tester American Mensa Academy, the third full 3DS title new to the eShop this week. Mensa International is an organization for people who have a high IQ, so playing this game is probably a good way to prove how smart you are.

Of course, you could also do that by uncovering the decades-old secrets of a mysterious island in the classic PC adventure Myst, which is also on the eShop this week. The game features new 3D artwork and, according to Nintendo, is “more entertaining than the original.”

As for digital-only games, 3DS owners can check out Monster Shooter (which looks like a very accurate description), while DSi fans can buy platformer Jump Trials and a puzzler that features a frontrunner for the best title of the year, Working Dawgs: A-Maze-ing Pipes.

Finally, if you prefer to use your 3DS to watch videos, you and your family can gather around it on Friday for a new Thanksgiving episode of CollegeHumor’s Dinosaur Office.
