You’ve kicked out your relatives, you’ve balled up the wrapping paper, your new Wii U has finally finished downloading that big first update, and you’re wondering what you’re supposed to do now. Well, Nintendo has some suggestions, and all of them involve buying downloadable games for the 3DS, DSi, Wii, and Wii U. Imagine that.
First up is the Wii U, which doesn’t get anything new this week but does see some holiday discounts on three of its eShop games. Starting today, you can get the bird-based platformer Chasing Aurora for $7.49 (down from $15), arson simulator Little Inferno for $9.99 (also down from $15), and the Wii U-exclusive Director’s Cut version of Trine 2 for $15.99 (discounted from $19.99).
The 3DS, on the other hand, does receive some actual new content in the form of three eShop games and a pair of NES classics. This week, you can download rotating puzzler Fluidity: Spin Cycle, stealth-action platformer Johnny Impossible, mahjong game Mahjong 3D: Warriors of the Emperor, and the original versions of Mega Man and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. For anyone who isn’t familiar with that last one, it’s just like the old title we all know and love, but filled with nothing but hate and sorrow. Happy Holidays!
Finally, the oft-neglected older brothers of the Nintendo family also have some gifts for you to open. This week on the DSi, you can download Jump Trials Extreme, a more extreme version of the puzzle platformer; Wizard Defenders, a Plants vs. Zombies-style strategy game; and Goooooal América, a tabletop-style soccer game (or “fútbol,” in keeping with the spirit of the name) that features an arcade mode in which a time bomb replaces the ball. Peligroso!
As for the original Wii, would you believe its only new addition is a game that was originally published by SNK? Yep, Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad comes to the Virtual Console this week, keeping up a tradition that started way back in September.
