Today THQ announced the appointment of Ron Moravek to executive vice president of production. Moravek previously worked as the chief operating officer for Company of Heroes developer Relic Entertainment. Following his departure from that company in 2006, he accepted the vice president position with Electronic Arts Canada.

“Ron is an exceptional development executive with unique perspective on the industry from both a creative and business point of view,” said THQ president Jason Rubin. “His entrepreneurial experience as well as his ability to drive dynamic teams is a great fit for our strategic objectives. Additionally, Ron’s experience building high-quality products will help us continue to deliver great games and build upon our foundation to innovate digitally in the future.”

This acquisition represents another step in THQ’s continued transition from money-hemorrhaging publisher of family-friendly products to a company more focused on core games. Since bringing on Rubin, the Saints Row: The Third publisher has reiterated time and again its dedication to a triple-A game slate going forward.

Moravek will directly oversee franchises like Saints Row, Darksiders, and Company of Heroes.

“I am thrilled to be re-joining THQ and to be working with Jason and the development team around the world to deliver high-quality games and digitally connected experiences,” said Moravek. “There are many exciting changes affecting the video game industry today, and I look forward to building new games and experiences with Jason and the team at THQ.”

THQ will release Darksiders II for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in August. The game will also release on the Wii U late this year.
