Gamers are used to downloading updates and patches to improve their playing experience. But it’s rare to find an update bigger than the game it’s supporting.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, releasing today on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (and coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 in November), has a downloadable day-one patch clocking in at 7.7GB, reports Eurogamer. That’s actually a lot bigger than main 4.6GB game file, and it’s going to keep your Internet connection busy for a while longer than you might have expected.

The fact that Pro Skater 5 has such a large day-one patch implies that a lot of development work’s still been going on in the buildup to launch.
Pro Skater 5’s total file size doesn’t come close to other graphically intensive current-generation games, such as 2013’s Killzone: Shadow Fall, which came in at just under 40GB. Still, there’s a strong argument that games should really be about playability, not graphics, so it’ll be interesting to see how much fun Pro Skater 5 developer Robomodo packed into those digital files, no matter what their size.
