Sometimes, it’s hard to tell exactly what the numbers mean.
WeArVR, a digital store that sells apps for virtual reality devices, announced that it has passed 150,000 downloads. That’s a big number! I mean, I certainly don’t have 150,000 of anything. Still, it’s hard to tell exactly what this number signifies, if anything.

Oculus Rift is only available as a developer kit (with 100,000 sold since last July). Samsung released the Gear VR in December, which turns the Galaxy Note 4 phone into a head-mounted display, but that product is young. WeArVR sells apps for Oculus Rift, the Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard, and Durovis Dive.
WeArVR also isn’t the only VR app store out there. Oculus has its own digital marketplace, Oculus VR Share, which is in beta, so downloads from WeArVR don’t represent the entire market.
WeArVr currently has 643 games. Its most popular game is In Paris, which has 4,196 downloads. That number actually seems small for an individual game, but in the young VR market, who knows how good or bad that really is. We likely won’t know how big of an impact VR will have in gaming until Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus become available to consumers.
