Developer Volition’s Saints Row IV is selling well, is getting mod support from the PC community, and is an all-around great game, but it might soon find itself lost in the shadows of a behemoth.

Rockstar Games launches Grand Theft Auto V next week, and the hyped open-world game is primed to hog the spotlight for some time. Volition isn’t taking it without fighting back. The studio is patching its top character, Johnny Gat, to help lure fans back to Saints Row IV with some new downloadable content, according to the official Sony PlayStation Blogcast.

Volition actually plans to release two add-ons next week. The first, called “GATV,” will give gamers access to tons of Johnny Gat-related items, according to a leaked image on message-board community GameFAQs. Less is known about the second expansion, which Volition titled “Wild West.”

Obviously, the name and timing of the GATV DLC is a reference to Rockstar’s GTAV.

We’ve reached out to publisher Deep Silver to ask about the pricing, availability, and exact content of the two expansions. We did not hear back. We will update this post with any new information.

Saints Row IV is available now for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. It follows the events of the president of the United States, who is also the leader of the Saints gang, as he attempts to rescue his friends and defeat an invading alien armada.
