War of the Roses developer reveals War of the Vikings followup

War of the Roses developer Fatshark is once again teaming up with publisher Paradox Interactive to produce a new historical third-person action game.

Fatshark is announcing today that it is working on War of the Vikings, a standalone successor to the 14th-century battle game War of the Roses that will have players controlling bearded Norsemen in medieval squad combat. War of the Vikings will enable gamers to create their own Viking and destroy the vile English in dynamic close-quarters combat.

“War of the Roses was a fantastic experience for us to launch, and as it’s evolved over time, eventually growing into its current Kingmaker edition, we’ve been inspired many times over by the possibilities of the close-combat genre,” War of the Vikiskngs executive producer Gordon Van Dyke said. “It’s clear to us that there are many more experiences we can share with our players, and War of the Vikings is our next step in establishing Paradox and Fatshark as leaders in the art of online war.”

War of the Vikings features authentic weapons and settings, tons of customization options, and 64-player online battles. As with War of the Roses, Fatshark is focusing on skill-based gameplay. The studio is developing an in-depth combat system that will reward those that invest the time to learn how it works.

The game is due out in the first quarter of 2014. Fatshark plans to launch an early test version of the game to select players soon. Gamers can sign up for that alpha test on Warofthevikings.com.
