Correction 9:47 p.m.: We originally posted Final Fantasy XV as a sure thing, but moved it to the “maybe” column after seeing that Square Enix has said it won’t reveal new information on it at E3.
It’s going to be a good Electronic Entertainment Expo for Square Enix fans.

So, now is the time to figure out what we should expect (and not expect) to see from them at the Los Angeles show.
We organized things based on how likely they are to appear at E3, with the most desperate cases appearing at the bottom.
The sure thing
These games were already announced, so they should be at E3.
- Kingdom Hearts III for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is the first entry in the Disney/Square crossover series to come out for consoles since the popular Kingdom Hearts II for the PlayStation 2 back in 2006.
- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the sequel to Deux Ex: Human Revolution, a stealth-based shooter/role-playing game hybrid. It’s coming out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
- Just Cause 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. 2010’s Just Cause 2 was a popular open-world game thanks to its ridiculous love of explosions and grappling hooks.
- Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox One exclusive sequel to the 2013 reboot of the action-adventure series.
- Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 is the fifth installment in the Japanese role-playing series and the first since 2009’s Star Ocean: The Last Hope.
- Bravely Second: End Layer is the sequel to the turn-based role-playing game Bravely Default on the 3DS. Fans love it for its old-school Final Fantasy flair.
The maybe
These titles aren’t announced yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see them debut at E3.
- Final Fantasy XV. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One action role-playing game is one of Square Enix’s most anticipated. I mean, Square hasn’t made 15 of these games (not counting spin-offs) for nothing. They’re popular. Now, game director Hajime Tabata has said that Final Fantasy XV is skipping the show to focus on development.
- Hitman. We know a new entry in the stealth-based series is coming, and E3 would be a good place to debut it.
- Final Fantasy Type-1. The HD release for Type-0 included a teaser at the end of the game that seemed to signal an eventual sequel. We might see it announced at E3.
- Final Fantasy XII HD. Square has just released an HD Final Fantasy X and X-2 on almost every platform imaginable. It makes sense for them to give the other single-player installment the series had on the PlayStation 2 the same treatment.
And the “yeah, right!”
Sorry, these aren’t going to happen.
- Anything Chrono. Old-school role-playing game fans always hope that Square Enix will revive this beloved series, which hasn’t had a new entry since 2000’s Chrono Cross on the original PlayStation. It’s been so long that it’s best you don’t get your hopes up.
- Dragon Quest X in the U.S. This massively multiplayer online role-playing game is available for Wii U, 3DS, Wii, PC and even mobile in Japan, but it never saw a Western release. It originally came out in 2012, so at this point it seems like we’ll never get it.
- Final Fantasy VII remake. People want this every year. Instead, we always get ports.
