The Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow is Sony’s opportunity to show the world how it will keep the PlayStation 4 on top.
Unfortunately, the publisher has already said that its first-party lineup is “a little sparse” for 2015, but this doesn’t mean we won’t get anything new or unexpected from the company’s media briefing on the Monday evening. We’ve gone ahead and collected all of the games we know about, some we have a good idea about, and some that would shock us if they actually show up.
Let’s get to it!
The sure thing
Sony has already talked about this stuff, so they’re probably going to get some stage time and space in the company’s booth.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. We know the next entry in Sony’s big adventure franchise won’t debut until next year, but the company will still show off its progress at E3.- Destiny downloadable content. Publisher Activision has a deal that gives Sony extra content for Destiny, and it’s likely that will result in the next expansion showing up in some way under the PlayStation banner.
- Batman: Arkham Knight. Like with Destiny, Sony has a marketing deal with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Arkham Knight. If nothing else, expect Sony to talk about the cool-looking PS4 that comes in the Batman bundle.
- Street Fighter V. Capcom is bringing its next fighting game only to PS4 and PC, and we anticipate the publisher will get some stage time at E3’s briefing to talk about it.
- No Man’s Sky. The anticipated open-world exploration game of galactic proportions is likely approaching a point where we may get details about a release date. Let’s find out.
- The Witness. The followup to Braid from indie developer Jonathan Blow will hit the PlayStation 4 before any other console.
- Project Morpheus. This virtual reality headset is another key early 2016 release for Sony. And the company won’t miss the opportunity to get some of those hot VR headlines after demoing the device earlier this year at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
The maybe
This stuff isn’t announced, or it doesn’t belong to Sony but could get a special mention during the PlayStation event.
- The Last Guardian. This was going to go in my “yeah, right!” pile (which you can find with the other absurd predictions), but a U.K. newspaper is reporting that it will happen. And Sony still hasn’t said that it’s canceled despite not showing up at E3 since 2009 … which is eight human years.
- God of War. We’re nearing two years into the PS4’s life, and it seems likely that Sony could bring back its action franchise to fill out its release roster.
- PlayStation Vita games. Sony has not spent a whole lot of time in 2015 talking about the Vita. This could change at E3, but we’re not too sure.
- Metal Gear Solid V, Star Wars, or something else big coming this fall. Sony has pushed Uncharted back into 2016, so it’s probably going to try to nail down one more big “exclusive downloadable content” deal with one of the big fall games. It’s already done this with Destiny and Batman, but it may try to do the same with Metal Gear or Star Wars: Battlefront to give the system some kind of boost through the holidays.
- Deep Down. This free-to-play action game from Capcom may finally reappear at E3.

And the “yeah, right!”
These are the dreams that are too beautiful to really exist. Or rumors that we don’t believe.
- Gran Turismo 7. This will happen eventually, but Sony has never really rushed these games out before.
- Gravity Rush 2. Gravity Rush is one of the best games on the Vita, and Sony is making a sequel — but for its Vita system, which isn’t doing great. The rumor is that this will instead come out on the PS4. That makes sense, but we’ll believe it when we see it.
- Something from Quantic Dream. The developer of Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain may have something new, but it’s probably not ready for E3.
