The original Wind Waker debuted on the GameCube in March 2003. After 10 years, Nintendo is bringing it back in 1080p. It’s also refined certain gameplay elements and introduced new ones.
The Wind Waker will be available on the Wii U this October. It’s also coming to the Nintendo eShop as a download title.
Nintendo has added shaders to improve visual expression and has fine-tuned texture graphics. It’s hoping this will transform Wind Waker and its cel-shaded visuals so that it looks “reborn” on the Wii U.
Nintendo can’t share full information about its changes, but Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said sailing on the open sea would be faster now due to adjustments to the game.
Using the Miiverse, players can also write messages and take screenshots that will “wash up” on the shores of other players’ games like messages in a bottle. This replaces the original Tingle Tuner feature, which allowed for assisted play by connecting the Game Boy Advance to the GameCube. Iwata said players can acquire the Tingle Bottle item, which allows them to connect to the Miiverse.
