Zynga is expanding the Words With Friends brand.
Words On Tour is a free-to-download puzzle-based take on the Scrabble-like mobile game. It’s out today for iOS devices via the App Store and for Android devices via the Google Play store. While Words With Friends is about competition, Words On Tour focuses more on progression accomplished by solving word-based puzzles all themed around famous cities like Cairo, Paris, and Tokyo.
This will give the mobile publisher another chance to create a hit in the mobile gaming market, which is expected to hit $30 billion in 2015, according to market researcher Newzoo. Along with Farmville and its Casino franchises, Words With Friends is one of Zynga’s most important properties.
Zynga was an early pioneer in the social gaming space thanks to mega hits like Farmville on Facebook, but the publisher has had trouble transitioning to the mobile era, which is dominated by games like Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans.
