Would a free copy of Destiny push you to buy an Xbox One?

Update: It looks like this promotion is working as some units of Xbox from retailers are already out of stock (including at the Microsoft Store and GameStop). We’ve updated the article below to reflect current available offers.

This week, Microsoft is casting a net trying to catch anyone willing to buy a next gen console during the week of Destiny’s release. Through Saturday, September 13th, you’ll find the best bundle offers we’ve seen yet for the Xbox One, available from Microsoft and other retailers. You’re unlikely to see better bundles until the holiday season later this year. As noted yesterday by a recent report, sales of the Xbox One improved in the month of August. Microsoft hopes to tip the balance of next gen power away from its competitor Sony, and this offer might be enough to do it.

The Microsoft Store

Buying an Xbox One through Microsoft is arguably the best move deal-wise this week. Through Saturday, buying a qualifying Xbox One bundle will net you a free game plus a $50 in Xbox Gift Card. (The card is actually a “gift code” sent via email after purchase and redeemable on your Xbox account). No matter the bundle you pick, before you check-out you’ll be able to add a free game to your shopping cart.

Probably the best free game value to go with is this week’s release of Destiny, but you can also choose between 34 other options. Shipping is of course free in the continental 48 US states and you’ll get your console shipped directly from Microsoft.

Best Buy

Best Buy isn’t offering an additional $50 Xbox gift card, but what you’ll get is a bundle with TWO games as they offer the Madden NFL 15 Bundle for $399.99 with a free game. Destiny is also a free pickup option, making it a solid choice. The choices of games in stock are similar to GameStop below, although take note: games priced above $59.99 – for instance, the Collector’s Editions of certain titles – will not qualify as free games. The Best Buy offer is a good choice for those with a BestBuy Rewards card, so you can tuck in more loyalty points for future purchases.

GameStop

GameStop is offering a free game with the purchase of any in-stock console, including the Xbox One Madden NFL 15 bundle for $399.99. GameStop has a list of 31 games to choose from, and like the Microsoft Store, Destiny is available as a free game.

The Madden Xbox One bundle from Best Buy and GameStop is arguably a better offer than the Microsoft alternative, with a bonus as high as $120. Of course, that’s assuming you would prefer Madden NFL 15 over the $50 Xbox gift code. Like the Microsoft Store, shipping is free at GameStop, or you can choose free store pickup at checkout and grab from your local store.

All the offers above will end on September 13th.

Is this enough to push you to buy an Xbox One this week? Let us know in the comments.
