You don’t need to spend big bucks to get ringside thrills anymore.
WWE revealed today released a virtual reality experience for the Samsung Milk VR content service on Samsung Gear VR. While wrestling fans have been able to watch events like SummerSlam on screens, this allows them to experience a show like they were at ringside. It also shows how entertainment industries outside of gaming are ready to embrace VR as a new way of delivering content.
“We are excited to bring our fans closer to the action through an immersive 360-degree viewing experience on Samsung Milk VR,” said Michelle Wilson, WWE chief revenue and marketing officer. “We strive to deliver innovative ways for our fans to engage and this is our first step in bringing virtual reality content to the WWE Universe.”
The experience actually includes 360-degree highlights from SummerSlam and NXT Takeover, another WWE event that took place that same weekend. WWE is releasing two videos. The first one focuses on highlights from both events and the match between WWE Champion Seth Rollins and John Cena, which included an appearance by Jon Stewart. The second features a match between Finn Balor and Kevin Owens from NXT Takeover.
