People have taken to social media to complain that they can’t get online for multiplayer games and don’t have access to video services like Netflix. Microsoft has posted the following confirmation to its status website:
“Xbox members, are you having issues signing in to Xbox Live? Our team is engaged and investigating this issue right now and we will not stop till everything is running smoothly again! Thanks for your patience while we work. We’ll update you when we have more information.”
The outage-tracking site Downdetector also noticed a major uptick in Xbox Live issues.

We’ve asked Microsoft for a statement, and we’ll update this post with any new information.
But since Microsoft has said that the errors are isolated to signing in, you may not experience issues if you were already playing games on Xbox Live. That means to avoid getting caught up in this outage, you should probably try to stay logged in until the Xbox Live engineers get the problem sorted.
Likewise, as with all Xbox Live and PlayStation Network downtime, this won’t affect everyone equally. You may still have full network functionality while dozens of others struggle to get online.
