Xbox One killer app Titanfall’s new game modes will be free

Titanfall’s first round of downloadable content (DLC) will cost $10, but it won’t include any new types of matches.

Vince Zampella, the cofounder and chief executive of Respawn Entertainment, unofficially confirmed this information on his Twitter account yesterday. Titanfall is a multiplayer-only first-person sci-fi shooter, and it’s one of 2014’s most hyped video games. Here is what Zampella said:

Titanfall is currently Microsoft’s biggest chip in this generation’s console war, since it’s exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox One, Xbox 360 (version delayed until April 8 in U.S. and April 11 in Europe), and PC. A lot is riding on whether the blockbuster title hits its sales targets.

The studio hasn’t yet provided a release date for the upcoming $10 expansion. It is available as part of a “Season Pass,” which gives buyers discounted access to all of the game’s planned DLC, for $25.
