Your iPhone 6+ and other ‘phablets’ won’t fit in Fallout 4’s wearable Pip-Boy

Your enormous phone is too big. Need proof? It won’t work with the real-life Pip-Boy that Bethesda is shipping later this year.

Fallout 4: Pip-Boy Edition is a limited version of the open-world role-playing game that comes with a wearable version of the bulky Pip-Boy wrist computer that your character always wears in the Fallout games. But it is apparently not bulky enough to fit some of the massive phones that are popular with consumers. The publisher has confirmed that the Pip-Boy will not work with phones like the iPhone 6+ or Galaxy Note. Those handsets are just way too big.

Here is how Bethesda explains the compatibility:

“We have new information on the phones compatible with the Pip-Boy Edition. The Pip-Boy included will have foam inserts that fit iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy 5, and Samsung Galaxy 4. In addition, using the customizable foam insert you should be able to fit most other popular smartphone devices.  As we wanted to stay faithful to the dimensions of the in-game model, any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device. For these larger devices, our Pip-Boy companion app will still be available.”

So anything with a screen bigger than around 5.2 inches is just not gonna fit.

This will exclude the aforementioned iPhone 6+, the Galaxy Note phones, and other large-panel devices. Basically, if anyone has ever used the word “phablet” to describe the thing you’re using as a phone, you’re out of luck.

Bethesda did say it will ship the Pip-Boy companion app to every Android and iOS device, so maybe you can just tape that to your forearm or something.
