Nintendo promises that the Wii U is not the first console to go without an original Zelda game.

Zelda Wii U will come to Nintendo’s gamepad system in 2016, according to the company’s Direct livestreaming video show today. Nintendo didn’t provide many other new details, but it did cement that the new adventures of Link will come next year.

Nintendo delayed Zelda for Wii U earlier this year, and it wouldn’t provide a new timeframe for a release. That’s all changed now as the publisher doesn’t want to make Wii U owners feel burned.
