Zynga’s reputation as a publisher of casual games is outdated. In the last year, the company started releasing a number of titles targeted at core gamers on mobile devices. That trend continues with its latest first-party release.

Now, the developer is ready to talk about its action role-playing game Battlestone for iOS and Android devices, which Zynga already released in a few small markets.
Battlestone is an RPG with real-time combat. Players control the onscreen action with intuitive finger swipes and taps that the developer claims makes it easy to perform combos and fend off multiple enemies at once. As gamers progress through the fantasy setting, they collect more hero characters with different abilities. Those alternative protagonists can tag in at any time.
“Players develop their gameplay strategy here [by] swapping out different heroes for just the right combat environment and opponents,” November Software chief technology officer Szymon Swistun wrote in a blog.
November Software is using the limited release to test the game. Swistun says the team is adjusting the dials to perfect it for a worldwide audience. The developer promises to reveal more details soon but wouldn’t provide an exact date for Battlestone’s global release.
Battlestone joins games like third-person shooter The Respawnables, tower-offense game Eden to Green, and action-adventure title Horn as Zynga’s big games aimed at core gamers.
