50 Games in 2012 – #11 Journey [PSN] (Completed April 8th)
Over the past few years I've slowly settled into the Playstation 3 being my main gaming console. With that said my experiences with the PSN store have been limited. One of my first PSN titles was a game called Flower. I still remember the first time I played Flower at night. Lights were turned off for dramatic effect and I was ready to be blown away. Flower turned out to be different in all the right ways giving me a gaming experience I had to yet to enjoy. ThatGameCompany's newest PSN release is Journey and I was brimming with excitement to play the new title. In my books Journey sat near the top for most anticipated games of 2012 and it proved not to disappoint.
First off I'll say I've played Journey twice and both times in one playthrough each. Doing a media blackout on the game was hard but I tried my best to not watch any videos or read any info about the title. Being such a short game I recommend to anyone else that hasn't played it to do the same.
The world of Journey is stunning and absolutely gorgeous. The silky sand is your friend through much of the game but every environment stood out as an extremely polished area. Journey also largely puts the control in your hands. Not knowing what your attempting to do but putting one and two together to walk towards a large tower is a great feeling. Many games shove info down your throat and break the experience of wonderment and discovery. Journey is completely the opposite as it asks you to find out and figure out yourself what to do.
My favourite moment from playing Journey was my first encounter with another player. It takes a while to find life but when you meet another traveler it's really cool to understand that these are real players just like you playing the game. You only communicate through a sound and a vibrant light but it stands as enough to communicate basic info and help one another get through areas of the game. In my first experience I met someone early on. This stranger and my character ended up playing the rest of the game together and it made the later parts of the game all the more satisfying to experiencing it with someone else.
Sometimes great things come in small packages and that is exactly what Journey is. Journey is short but what it offers is more then enough to make it worth your time and a purchase.

Pros: Cinematicaly one of the best games i've played. Game is extremely beautiful and continues to show how art can be great in videogames.
Cons: Too short.
Conclusion: Journey is another masterful title from "That game company". A definitive experience worth taking part in.
