Bungie

Bungie

Yesterday during the news Blip from Michael Donahoe he posted something about Halo 2.  Well I made a comment about any bad news for Bungie is good news for me.

Yes I am not a Halo fan boy and nor do I claim to be a fan boy of anyone other then Rare.  How ever I will shed a light on what I meant so we can all have a discussion.

Bungie has been around for almost 20 years which is really impressive.  They really taken control of the FPS world with Halo and not that marathon game.  How ever the Halo franchise is not what makes them at all.  This maybe where you chuckle or laugh, but I am serious though.

In a way I respect Bungie more when I over look the Halo series and all the other stuff they done for the gaming industry.  You might think I am wrong, but let me point a few things out before we discuss why Bungie is so big with out even Halo for a game.

One of the most known and talked about things Bungie has going for them some times gets over looked.  Bungie was the first to adapt the gamer tag to there site for game updates on everything.  With this it brought a whole new dimension to playing a game.  For some of us seeing what your friends are playing and able to see your stats live just makes one go all giddy.

For them to be the first developer to do this is saying something.  As this was a big risk moment where it was all or nothing for there game.  Honestly this could of happened with any game, but we all know that was not going to happen.  Other games to follow suit have been Call of Duty: World at War & Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise.

Product merchandise has been around for awhile.  Then again so has product rewards like Pepsi Points, Betty Crocker and others.  How ever I belive that with the Halo merchandise you collect and you keep the points from that you have been given the chance to gain rewards.

This is not something new, but once this was announced a while ago no one in the game industry was really doing this stuff.  If you were sorry I didn’t notice becuase you were not doing it like Bungie’s Marketing staff did it.  Now we see more companies doing this sort of stuff which is great for the loyal fans of the respected companies.

After all said and done if Bungie could make a great game that is not a shooter and not limited to just the Xbox then maybe I will respect Halo more.  Since this is how I feel I do respect Bungie and what they have done in the gaming world.  I just don’t care for the game they made that brought FPS to life when they made Halo.
