Deadly Premonition: the Director's Cut Slated for Q1 2013

Deadly Premonition: the Director's Cut Slated for Q1 2013

A few years ago, a small budget game was released for the Xbox 360 by Ignition Entertainment by the name of Deadly Premonition. It was an Xbox exclusive title that hit store shelves for the nominal fee of $20. Though it didn’t tear down doors with sales success, it garnered a unique group of fans and became a cult hit. Probably with the assistance of various gaming websites, like GiantBomb.com of San Francisco, where editors played the game and exposed the dark plot and gameplay, the game got more and more attention for its bizarre but charming style.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it stars the young but eccentric federal agent Francis York Morgan as he visits a small mountain town to investigate a mysterious death that may be tied to the “Red Seed Murders” he’s been following throughout the country. Blending elements from various games like Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, and Mass Effect, Deadly Premonition a survival horror noir with loads of mini-games and little bizarre quirks to keep players entertained. Those looking for a specific and refined experience, look elsewhere, but those interested in the B-movie game title from 2010, this is definitely worth investigating. Playstation 3 owners looking for this type of game were left to look on envy for the past few years, until now.

Deadly Premonition’s creator SWERY65 announced a remastered version for the PS3 back in March, and now it looks like it’s finally got a release date, well, a range anyway. The publisher, Rising Star Games, issued a press release today that Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2013 for North America and Europe. Here are some of the new features stated in the press release:

New scenario from the game's director, Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro
HD graphics
Reworked control system allowing for an even better combat experience
Downloadable content to expand the mystery beyond the original game

No price has been confirmed for the Director’s Cut and will likely only be disclosed upon a finalized release date announcement. Also, Move controls were mentioned with the original intention of moving the game to the PS3, but the press release did not mention anything specifically.
