Electronic Evolution Verses Nostalgia

Electronic Evolution Verses Nostalgia
We all have nostalgia for the good old days. But what if the good old days weren’t so good? There’s almost a religious fervor used by purists over what is considered a classic.

Developers believe in electronic evolution. They believe that games get better over time. And as the technology gets better and as they learn more about the medium itself developers push the envelope of what is expected in the game industry.

The purists on the other hand believe in the classic. They believe that their game or genre cannot be improved on in any sense, so they stick to their respective game until it can’t be played anymore. They believe in an electronic form of creationism. They are in love with nostalgia to the point where there is no convincing them otherwise.

So which one is right? I believe in electronic evolution myself. There are few games I would go back to play of any previous generation.

What do you consider yourself to be?
