Being a foreign exchange student now, many things have changed. I have a lot of free time. I also no longer have a PC with my games, just a little MacBook with Steam. But I quickly learned that a very slow internet connection would mean downloading a game like Portal 2 or Left 4 Dead 2 from Steam would take quite a while. So I turned to the App Store.

In search of anything, a little puzzler or action game to fill a void I had been missing, my searches unffortunately turned up short and dissappointing. Never being quite the puzzler connesiouer, I had no idea for what I'd like or have the attention span.

Then one day, perusing the internet, I came across this little comic:

A very simple comic reminded me of a game my dad used to play all the time on his computer, Solitaire. I thought about it and figured it's probably on the App Store. Sure enough, it was.

After a quick download I jumped in eager to lose myself and play a game. It started up and I was swiftly delt the cards. Then I realized I had no idea what to do with the cards. So I did the next best thing. Clicking randomly and bouncing around to figure out how to play.

After many times becoming thoroughly confused and somewhat frustrated, I thought it might be time for a break. I naturally thought, once again, back to not being a very "puzzle-y" gamer. So I closed up.

Later, I felt a weird calling, or an urge. I had a feeling there was something unique and simplisticly interesting about the game on which I didn't want to miss out. I decided it might be worth another try. I opened the game once more and moved around the screen clicking and clicking until, eventually, I saw this:

Don't ask me how, I don't know either.

I then made a kind of connection. Every gamer knows that connection. It's a rewarding sense of breaking through a game's tough shell to find a wealth of enjoyment. The game accepts the player and teaches them more about what makes a video game so enjoyable and rewarding. Even the most simplistic games can have the most depth.

Now, excuse me while I go play Solitaire.
