I'm sure most of you have heard the age old saying “a beta is just a beta”, but with last week’s release of the Battlefield 3 beta can there be an exception to the rule?
I’ve heard over the past week a lot of mixed reviews when it comes to the Battlefield 3 beta; and while it’s fine to get frustrated with beta shenanigans, it’s another thing entirely to judge the final product.
You know who you are. Many of you can’t shake the run and gun nature of Call of Duty off your bones, while some are honestly too judgmental. You complain because you can and have every right to because the pressure is on for developer Dice. This beta can single handedly be the deciding factor for a good chunk of players. It’s foolish to think this will dethrone the CoD tyrant of the FPS world, but it should put a good dent in the armor.
To say the beta hasn’t been a frustrating one is an understatement, but this beta is a month old. EA submitted the beta to Microsoft and Sony early to get the go ahead. On top of that, the rumors circling the inter-webs say the console betas closer resembles that of the alpha for PC.
I can understand why people are dropping the ban-hammer on the game already, hell I’ve thought about it. In the end it’s the time I’ve spent playing with friends that over-shadows that of my doubt.

People want change and not Obama change either. They’re tired of the “typical” shooter that a generation unfortunately has grown up on. Thanks to the efforts of several developers, we’re starting to see more positive alternatives to an already crowded market.
While you should expect a top notch showing come launch, take the beta for what it is… a beta.
