aereo-pricing

TV streaming startup Aereo has unveiled a more flexible pricing structure that includes a $1 day pass, $8 and $12 monthly passes, and an $80 annual plan.

Aereo lets New York City residents view live streams from major TV broadcast networks (including ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox) on a variety of Internet-connected devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and desktops. There’s also a DVR in the mix that allows users to record up to 40 hours of content that can be streamed later. Ultimately, it’s a great solution for cord-cutters that still want to enjoy local content.

Offering more flexible pricing could enrage TV networks further after the startup won a decisive victory in court in mid-July.

Prior to today, Aereo only offered a $12 per month subscription, so the new pricing gives potential customers flexibility. If there’s a big event you really want to see but don’t watch much TV, the $1 day pass is ideal. Or if you love the service, the $80 annual plan could end up saving you a little cash each year.

The new pricing options also include Aereo Try for Free, which allows people to try Aereo for one continuous hour each day without paying a cent. Aereo membership and Aereo Try For Free are only available to those physically present in New York City, but the company eventually wants to extend its service to more cities.

“We know that one size does not fit all, that’s why we’ve designed our new pricing structure to work for a wide variety of lifestyles,” Aereo CEO Chet Kanojia said in a statement. “Whether you want a day pass to watch the ‘big game’ on your mobile device or an annual membership that provides you with 40 hours of DVR storage, we have a plan that works for you.”
