Flicking a website to your TV with Chromecast will now allow you to play most YouTube videos embedded within the page, the company announced today.
Previously, Chromecast users had to navigate to the YouTube website or one of its mobile applications to enable screen mirroring on videos. There were a few exceptions to this while the company tested embedded video integration, but it appears this functionality is now live for most videos, according to a Google support page first spotted by Android Police.
The new functionality is significant because it really allows Chromecast users to use the device as it was truly intended. I say that because I’m guessing most people — including myself — rarely find videos they’d like to watch directly on YouTube. More often than not, the videos I watch come from news articles that I’m reading on a tablet or smartphone. Now I can flick those videos to my TV screen, then promptly go back to reading articles.
