All eyes will be on Apple’s new iPhone and CEO Tim Cook this morning

Today, the tech and consumer worlds will stand still for an hour or so as Apple unveils its latest products for the mobile fans. This will likely be the first time that newly minted chief executive Tim Cook will take the stage as the main speaker since taking over the top job from Steve Jobs.

The presentation will show the world what it’s like when Cook runs the show, or at least most of it. The odds are pretty good that Jobs will not show up today.

We’ll be at Apple’s digs for the event starting at 10 am Pacific time. There are all sorts of rumors about what will happen today. Sprint is reportedly betting billions of dollars on an exclusive for the iPhone 5. Facebook may launch its iPad app. Apple will likely have its iOS 5 software ready to go with new features such as a voice-powered Assistant.

Whatever happens, we’ll be watching closely and covering the news as it happens. With luck, we’ll have plenty of pictures and video to show you the goods in all of their glorious detail.

Apple has decided not to livestream the event, so dispatches from bloggers in the auditorium will be the main way news gets out. It will be something of a media circus, as publications like Engadget are already broadcasting live from the company’s Cupertino, Calif. headquarters. I’ll try to live-blog as fast as humanly possible, and the rest of the VentureBeat team will pick up on the news and explain it as thoroughly as possible as well.

What will happen? Check out VentureBeat for the blow-by-blow coverage of the event at Apple’s headquarters.
