When it comes to web video Amazon and Apple are considered competitors. So a report today that Amazon will have an app on Apple TV is a little surprising.
The report, posted by 9to5Mac Saturday, cites an Amazon customer support rep as saying that the new app is in development and should be ready in the next few weeks. Actually, a reader contacted Amazon through its customer support system, and received the following response:
[aditude-amp id="flyingcarpet" targeting='{"env":"staging","page_type":"article","post_id":1845338,"post_type":"story","post_chan":"none","tags":null,"ai":false,"category":"none","all_categories":"bots,media,mobile,","session":"B"}']“As we have already succeeded in developing an app for iPhone and iPad, we hope to make an app separately for Apple TV.”
Customer service reps are not authorized spokespeople, and this one could have been misinformed, as 9to5Mac acknowledges. But it’s very possible that an app is truly on the way.
